English: Abramov glacier is located in the Pamir Alay mountains and is the only glacier from this wide mountain range with direct mass balance measurements. After the collapse of the soviet union, most of the glaciological measurements were abandonned. The importance of the glacier changes in Central Asia, one of the driest continental regions of the Northern Hemisphere, is fundamental for water ressources, a current hot topic in Central Asia due to its impact on political instability, ecological changes and food securtiy. The glacier monitoring was re-established in 2011 within the CATCOS project (now CICADA). This picture was taken during the 2016 field campaign on the Abramov glacier, at around 4000 m a.s.l.
